Shoutout

I just wanted to send a shoutout to my fellow hedgehog breeders/friends. We need to support each other. We all work so hard. We work hard to keep this species going STRONG & healthy. We work hard entering in pedigree after pedigree, so we have the most solid, healthy, & friendly hedgies. We buy expensive, quality food and insects & treats for them, spending hours handling these sweet babies so they are acclimated to people and being handled, weighing them daily and keeping track of their growth and health, making sure (to the best of our ability) that the homes they go to are as educated as they can possibly be before taking their babies home, opening the lines for communication if questions or issues pop up. Sending babies home with bags of their food mixes and a dose of Revolution for good measure. AND SO MUCH MORE. It’s expensive and it is work. You can go buy a hedgehog for $150 from some rando online in BFE, but have they put in the work to ensure you get a QUALITY pet, did they offer lifetime support for your baby, did they offer health guarantees, did they offer to always take a baby back if there are life changes, no questions asked?

Our prices are higher because we work harder to provide excellent animals/pets. There is so much more to it than just throwing 2 hedgehogs together and waiting for babies. We focus on quality and strength in the lines we work with. For me, it is about introducing the unique, fun, & interesting animal I LOVE to people who may never experience them otherwise, with the aim to provide the best experience possible for both human & hedgie.

This is my mantra, and the code that I go by, as an ethical breeder of pedigreed hedgehogs.

I’ve got nothing but love for my ethical/pedigreed hedgehog breeder “colleagues”. Even if we aren’t “friends”, we all work hard.
