HOW THE HEDGEHAUS HEDGEHOGS ADOPTION PROCESS WORKS:

This question is asked so often, I decided it needed its own blog post!

Baby hedgehogs! Teeny-tiny! Just a few days old! We never touch babies this young unless absolutely necessary.

1. Read through our care page! The first step is to make sure that you know what caring for a pet hedgehog entails. (You are always welcome to reach out with any questions!)

2. Read through our policies page! This is important information for you to know when purchasing a hedgehog from us.

3. After you have reviewed our policies and researched hedgehog care, and you KNOW you are ready to take the plunge, fill out our adoption application! Once I review it, I will get back to you typically within 48 hours. (If you have not heard from me, PLEASE text me-- 469-629-8987! Very occasionally, an application gets missed or I don't get a notification.) At this point, I will add you to our waitlist. There is no charge to join our waitlist.

4. When babies are 4 weeks old, I will send a private link with baby pics & info to the waitlist, IN ORDER OF THE LIST. I give everyone 6 hours to choose the baby they would like. 6 hours is the limit since there are other people waiting. If the day/time does not work for you, please let me know in advance and we can hopefully work something out. (I try to be as flexible as I can be!)

5. To reserve the baby you have chosen, there is a $50 non-refundable deposit that we accept primarily via Zelle. This deposit goes towards the total price of the hedgehog. Once I receive your deposit and you let me know which baby you would like, I mark them as reserved for you! This holds this baby for you until the baby is ready to go home at approximately 7 weeks of age.

6. When babies are ready to go home, we make an appointment for you to pick up your baby. We do porch pick ups! (This just means we meet you outside with your baby! We meet outside since we have other family members in the house, dogs, etc.) We will spend as much time as needed to go over proper handling and any questions you may have as you meet your baby and prepare to take them home. All babies are sent home with bags of food.
